Roots

I am an Indian and I am extremely proud of my roots. India that is Bharat is one of the oldest civilizations in the world and we have contributed to the world during the ancient and modern eras.

I was born in Hong Kong to a Bengali Mother and a Maharashtrian Father. Bengal and Maharashtra are on the opposite end of India and both have very strong native culture. My family background beautifully intertwines two distinct yet harmonious heritages within the greater Indian identity.

Maharashtrians follow a Lunar cycle and the new year falls between March and April. Bengalis following Solar cycle and the new year falls in April. We have had this calendars in India for thousands of years and we know how to optimize Lunar and Solar cycles in one calendar.

Ganesh Chaturthi is the most important festival in Maharashtra. We have Shri Ganesh at our home for a week and we seek his blessings for our well being and removal of obstacles. Durga Puja is the most important festival in Bengal and we celebrate that as a community event. We seek blessings of Ma Durga for victory of good over evil. Deepawali is celebrated across India with family and friends.

These two cultures link seamlessly through their shared Sanatan Vedic roots, love for education, family bonds, and festive exuberance. I have gained the best of both worlds: Maharashtrian intelligence, grit and practicality fused with Bengali intelligence, sensitivity and creativity. I am trying my best to fluently speak Bengali, Marathi and Hindi. I love our native food and my plate often features delicious fusion meals, opening my palate and mind to diversity.

As a proud Indian, my mixed heritage celebrates the nation’s “Unity in Diversity.” It has equipped me with adaptability, tolerance, and a strong cultural foundation to embrace life while deeply honoring my multifaceted roots.
