I read this very troubling article on Wired (AI Came for Math. Now It’s Chasing the Rest of Science). The article talks about how AI is solving theoretical problems in Math, Stats, Econ and Science.

It made me think that will this approach lead to collapse of scientific aptitude. Today, we learn science in schools or universities to better understand a subject, experiment in labs and then develop applications using our scientific understanding obtained through theory and practice. If next generation of students and professionals are simply going to solve scientific problems through AI Agents then our own ability to experiment, fail, think, learn, iterate, and solve is going to disappear at some point in time. It will make students stop thinking about Science and think more about how to prompt AI. I wonder how would that benefit the world? I know there are many applications or tasks that AI can perform but if we take away the fun of scientific exploration and failures we will be staring at a world where innovation will suffer.
